Dinosaur toys (general) / Re: 2013 Figures

Hrm. The Deinother looks really, really odd. The neck and body both look too long, or something. Actually, the shape reminds me of a stuffed animal :/

I have to second that. It seems to be a hit and miss affair with Collecta's models, with all too many misses. (Sorry, maybe I am being too harsh here.) Sometimes their animals look distorted and clunky. This Deinotherium looks like one of the misses. A shame, because it could (should!) have been so beautiful, considering the attention that has been given to fine detail. But of course, this is just my viewpoint and I am frustrated (over a toy?!). And I do like some of the Collecta models. I am curious: does Collecta also use a 'house sculptor'? (Is there a thread about sculptors and sculpts/styles of the different companies?) If only they would reconsider restyling this model a bit, and certainly the neck.

I never noticed the red either. It really is a beautiful model, just look at its head! Is the jaw articulated?

The jaw is a separate, glued on piece (I believe this model is comprised of 4 pieces), but it is not articulated. Even though it is not articulated and painted a grayish drab green and tan (which I like), it has a lively look to it - and powerful - and graceful too, in a way. I must confess it is my instant favorite Brachiosaurus model. It has character. (And at least it is not painted lime green and bright red  :P ) Sure, it is a toy Brachiosaurus model, and not so much a scientific model (in that respect, I like the Carnegie Brachiosaurus best, notwithstanding its color scheme), but it is arguably the best toy Brachiosaurus around. Anyway, apart from the inaccuracies and the things we do not yet know about these animals (like color), we could call this Papo model Giraffatitan brancai to separate it from the Carnegie Brachiosaurus altithorax :)

Papo Brachiosaur arrived today, only four days after I placed my order :)
Capturing the 'true' colors of the thing on photo with artificial light is not easy, but I hope you enjoy them - I think you get the picture :)

In daylight (more truthful colors on these pics):

Where did you get the edaphosaurus? It's almost impossible to find  ^-^
I don't know about the USA, but it's pretty easy to find here via eBay.

....... if you're willing to buy from that Slovenian usuer 'e-collectiblez' and pay at least 30 bucks.

yeah, that's what I had in mind... I meant "besides the slovenian crook"...

The 'crook' may have my money and choke on it. I am the last person to criticize someone for asking too high prices - I am a person who buys Apple and Bose products - and who spends hundreds of dollars/euro's (or thousands of) norwegian crowns on toys and gadgets each year ;) I am happy to have 'only' paid GBP 29,- (including shipping) on the Papo Brachiosaurus, though :)

Some of my latest acquisitions.

In a few weeks, the Batrachotomus will join my expanding Bullyland Permian and Triassic Archosaur family - I like the Bullyland models a lot.

Today I ordered the Papo Brachiosaurus - I don't know when it will arrive, but I guess within two weeks (it has to travel from England to Norway).

Started my own little Bullyland prehistoric mammal (and other animal) collection, now that they are again widely available 8) They are excellent and charming at the same time. Here are, of course, the Chalicotherium, Deinotherium and Mastodonsaurus. Also, bought some Collecta figures (I already owned the Plateosaurus and Ampelosaurus). The excellent Kelenken came in yesterday. Now it is waiting for the Megacerops. I am thinking about buying the Bullyland Megatherium and some other figures too ...

Just received my Carnegie Brachiosaurus. And yes, I have been tampering with it:

How did you cool the plastic/ rubber?

I hold it under cold running water. It sets into the redefined shape fast, but I don't know if it will hold over time. Until now - after a few days - it has :)

AWESOME pic ! It really shows off the detail as well..nice camera too.. ;D

Thanks :) The effect is created through HDR. Very simple. (And on an historic DSLR :P )

Ok..I understand the HD part. lol  I'm not tech savy at all.. ;D

All I have a simple Kodak Easy Share..and I'm entirely sure how everything on it works.. ;)

I'm curious, how long have you them modified for now ? I was under the impression that heating worked on the WS figures but the Carnegie collection was more..rubbery ?  So the heating trick didn't always work . If it does  I may need to pick up another..maybe try me heat gun on it. ;)

Hmmm, I don't know how the Safari models compare to the Carnegie models on account of material. In any case, I simply go by trial and error, and I have found that the material of the Carnegie Diplodocus and Brachiosaurus holds well to reshaping through heating (with boiling water - then it gets indeed very rubbery) and cooling off (with cold running water). I have not put them in the freezer. When reheated with boiling water, the models take their original shapes. I don't know if the effect of heating - reshaping - cooling will hold. It has hold now for a few days. If, at room temperature, they slowly revert to their original shapes, well, then it has all been a waste of time and I am left with some gorgeous models anyhow :)

Interesting modification Archosaur. I assume you used the hot water/hair dryer treatment?  :)

Yes, it is satisfyingly simple and effective. (I dip it in boiling water.) I tried it on some Carnegie 'tripods' too, but that did not really work, as they have such small feet. I do like the Carnegie toy model line the best, though, and this Brachiosaurus has a lot going for it, especially after my modification (not so much for reasons of scientific accuracy - because I assume it is - as for reasons of personal taste).

Been a member for some time on the Dinosaur Toy Forum (Version 1). Not really a newbie here then, but maybe someone could explain to dumb old me how to transfer my 'old' profile to Version Two?
